I bought my first Afghan Hound back in 1991 she was a black masked gold called Czhemara Madi Gina but we called her Sophie she was absolutely gorgeous and we were hooked.
We were told she was not show quality so we only showed her at open level, but she won at lots of shows but most of all she enjoyed winning, especially if she had an audience that would applaud her when she won a class.
She would bounce around the ring as people clapped...sometimes they would be clapping in another ring but we never told Sophie that, we just let her enjoy it. It was because of our love of Sophie that we decided to have more afghans, we loved them all but none were like our Sophie.
My daughter Vikki loved to show Sophie in junior handling because she moved so well for her, together they won so many classes.
Sadly, after a very short illness Sophie passed away in September 2002, whilst I was away on holiday, so I never got to say goodbye.
She is now buried in our garden with her favourite squeaky ball that she loved. |
